Chesmenskaya column in the Catherine Park of Tsarskoye Selo - a monument symbolizing the power and glory of the Russian fleet. Doric columns 25 meters high was designed by architect Antonio Rinaldi Olonetsky of marble and installed in 1776 in the center of a large pond. The monument was created in memory of the battle in the bay Scesma in 1770, to determine the outcome of the Russian-Turkish war. The prototype of the monument became ancient stele decorated severed noses captured ships.
